Excluding myself, not everyone would be delighted to have been born and raised in a New York City ghetto area of the South Bronx. A substantial part of my  rearing energy came from the school of streets and sidewalks  of the Bronx and  Manhattan, with a little of Brooklyn and Queens thrown in for flavor. Growing up in NYC was similar to a Japanese sword maker plunging annealed steel metal into water in order to create super hardening.

Throughout my growth, the city was a boundless curiosity, a visual assault with sound effects and countless encounters with people of varying colors, culture, intellect and creativity. At the age of twenty, with the Korean War bursting forth,  I decided to join the US Navy.  It was here that I learned  about the power of photography and it’s ability to capture, transform and transmit a moment as an emotion to be received by the viewer.

Eventually the city and it’s universities allowed me to receive a Doctorate degree and I  established a Dental specialty practice in Periodontics  in Manhattan.  My Czech wife Dasha, is an accomplished and renowned artist whose basic art  philosophy is “ Color is Life “   I have to say that after many years together,  it appears that some of her philosophy has definitely and most  happily, left some imprints on me.

As in the evolution af art, photography has been thrust into the digital world with all of tt’s marvelous creative possibilities and always hovering nearby, the lure of abuse and mediocrity.   The search and battle between the two continues.

I call this form of photography  COLOR TRANSLATION . Using a standard color photo , then applying  multiple techniques to add and  subtract  layers of filters,  which in effect, stretch and bend colors to a desired shape , form and color.
